It typically begins when we examine your hair closely with a procedure called trichoscopy. This will determine the type of ongoing hair loss and your current hair density .

Hair Thinning in Both Men and Women

Most men and women experience some type of hair loss during their lifetime. In both men and women, hormone related hair loss is the most common, known as androgenic alopecia. Men develop a distinct pattern of baldness as represented by the image below. In men, we use the Hamilton-Norwood Scale to determine the stage of hair loss. Women develop a different pattern with diffuse thinning in all areas of the scalp. Other conditions that can be identified and treated include the following: Alopecia areata is caused by the body’s immune system attacking hair follicles. Telogen effluvium is hair loss precipitated by extreme stress. Anagen effluvium is due to damage to hair follicles by chemotherapy or toxins. Seborrheic dermatitis is related to a fungus that feeds on buildup of sebum.

Am I Losing Too Much Hair?

It is normal to lose 50-100 hairs daily. if you are losing more than this, it is considering excessive hair shedding. When you wash your hair less often, more seems to fall out more all at once. Washing pulls at the hair that would have fallen out slowly and naturally over time. It’s important to determine the reason for thinning hair or hair loss. Starting treatments directed toward the cause is often able to halt the hair loss and produce new growth in as little as 2-3 months.

The Sooner You Start the Better

Our hair loss treatment program can provide up to 10 different treatment interventions during a 30 minute visit. Each visit can be done 1, 2 or 3 times per week based on the type and the severity of hair loss. Based on the severity, we can provide medication recommendations as aggressive as possible to halt the loss of hair and stimulate follicles to start a new growth phase. Please be aware that once a new medication or intervention is started for hair loss treatment, this will result in some shedding of the hair that is in a resting phase. Then after 1 to 2 months, a new growth phase often starts. After 3 months, typical results begin to show new hair growth coming in.

Hair Loss Treatments

The treatments we use have evidence-based research backing the response rates for each individual treatment. Several of the treatments we offer may be used together to achieve higher response rates than being used alone. The options include topical agents, combinations of agents, oral or injectable medications, and medical grade light therapy. Our goal is to provide the best possible results with hair loss treatments for our clients. We help them to achieve the best response rates possible so that they may refer friends and family to us. Each session in the clinic is expected to take about 30 minutes. Your progress in the VIP Hair Restoration program will be followed by serial hair exam and hair density checks. This is a special analysis to see how much hair you have gained following the treatments. In most cases. you can expect significant improvement after having 3 months of treatment. As long as this initial period is successful, then much more improvement is expected over the next 9 months.
