Our laser clinic stays busy during these warm sunny months. Chances are that your course of treatment may start or end in warm sunny weather. If you follow a few simple guidelines, it is completely safe to have laser laser hair removal in the summer.

Expert advice for laser treatments in the summer:

1. There is no need to avoid the sun completely. Some light to medium tanning is acceptable if it is done 2 weeks before or after a laser session.
2. Wear sunblock to avoid sunburn with an 60 SPF rating and reapply every 2 hours especially if sweating or swimming.
3. Small amounts (up to 20 minutes) of direct sunlight for a few times per week will not be a problem.
4. Avoid a medium to dark tan or sunburn which may decrease the effectiveness of laser hair removal. It will also lower the risk of lighter or darker pigment changes of the skin.
5. Laser hair removal will increase your chances of a sunburn.
6. A light to medium tan still allows effective hair removal with a laser wavelength called the 1064 ND:Yag. This wavelength is available in our GentleMax Pro. This same laser is used for African, Indian and Hispanic skin types year round.
7. Another reason to avoid excessive sun exposure: It is responsible for most aging of the skin including sunspots, wrinkles and cancerous changes.
8. Avoid excessive alcohol and controlled substances outdoors which distort judgement about sun exposure.
9. Covered areas of the body like underarms and bikini are the best areas for laser hair removal during the summer.

If you follow these few simple rules, you will find that laser hair removal is safe in the sunny and warm months. Therefore, the idea that you can’t get laser hair removal in the summer is a myth. Hopefully, this has resolved the unnecessary worries!
